File Transfer Africa specializes is uploading and downloading huge volumes of data at high speed to customers all over the world.

“AWS enables us to upload terabytes of data at lightning speed to customers all over the world – data has limited value without sufficient velocity!”Carl Snyman Founder, File Transfer Africa

BACKGROUND

  • File Transfer Africa needed access to high speed storage all over the world to upload huge amounts of data
  • Need a cloud storage platform with local points of presence throughout the world, that allowed huge volumes of bandwidth throughput in order to deliver low latency access to the data by end users

SOLUTION

  • Built robust upload solution based on S3, leveraging multi-part uploads to overcome the high latency of long distance network connections
  • AWS enables File Transfer Africa to upload data to global locations at speeds of 2GB/minute and clients in the first world to enjoy the download speeds they’re used to
  • Disrupted the current data transfer processes in the film industry involving FTP, proprietary software and couriering physical hard drives
  • File Transfer Africa has moved over 18 terabytes of data and millions of files since it launched in December 2014
  • The biggest single upload to AWS was 3.8 terabytes and 2.6 million files
  • Using Amazon EC2, Amazon S3 and Route53

BENEFITS

  • Enables clients in the film industry to get early access to data, where post production houses are all over the world and footage is shot in South Africa they get to see it on the same day
  • Enables corporate clients to upload huge data volumes never thought possible to upload into the cloud
